Outside the city

Cape Point

The end of the Cape peninsula is situated in a wheelchair friendly nature reserve about 40km south of the house (60km south of the city centre itself). You might see Zebra, Eland, Cape tortoise, Baboons and African Oyster Catchers. There is an accessible funicular to take you to the scenic viewing area, but the actual lighthouse can only be reached by a large set of stairs. The paths are all good and there are good toilet facilities.

Groot Constantia

Apparently the oldest wine farm in South Africa, Groot Constantia is between the house and Cape Town city centre and is lovely. There is wine tasting (of course) and cellar tours as well as the chance to meander around the lovely walkways. There are a few restaurants and I have yet to find a barrier there. It can be hilly in places though.

Other Wine Farms

I'm informed that these wine farms in Stellenbosch are all wheelchair friendly but I have not visited them myself to check on facilities. Please let me know if you go in order that I can update this page.
